What information do we collect and how do we use it?

• We do not collect, process or manipulate your debit/credit card details in any way, all debit/credit card details are submitted directly to the payment provider (details below), no debit/credit card details ever pass through any other information systems.
• We do not store credit card details nor do we share customer details with any 3rd parties
• Your credit or debit card information is transferred to and processed by either stripe.com
• We collect information volunteered by the user, including name, telephone number, email address, post code and vehicle registration plate. We may use your telephone number if we need to contact you regarding a vehicle check you have performed. We use your postcode to show you vehicle crime in your local area on our car crime map and we may use the post code to suggest motoring services, such as MOT garages, available for you to use. We use your name to personalise correspondence that is sent to you, for example, your welcome email or any reports we email to you after you have purchased them. We use your email address to contact you when it is required to use our service, for example, when you request a password reset or to send a copy of your vehicle history check to you. We also use your email address to send you reminders for important dates or occurances for any vehicles in your 'my vehicles' area, such as road tax expiry date and mot expiry date. We also collect information on the provenance of vehicles a user has searched for using our services.

Consent

Your personal information will only be used as set out in Motorscan's privacy policy. Submitting your details indicates your consent, for the time being, that we and our partners may contact you about products and services that will be of interest to you.

Under the new GDPR regulations there are 6 lawful bases under which organisations can collect, use and store personal data. Motorscan’s legal basis for collecting and using the personal information falls under Consent, Contract and Legitimate interest.

Contractual - in most instances we rely on the lawful basis of "performance of a contract", this enables us to respond to you when you express an interest in our products and services and to fulfil any requests.

Consent - in all circumstances we rely on your specific consent, whereby you actively agree and "opt-in". We will always make it clear how you can withdraw your consent at any time. You can opt-out at any by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails or contact us via email; we will then not contact you again until you ask us to do so.

Legitimate Interests - for all of our services we rely on our legitimate business interests to collect and use your personal data. In such cases, we have balanced our interests with yours and do not believe these activities will have a negative impact on your privacy rights and freedoms.

Do we share your personal information with third parties?

• The information we collect may be disclosed when legally required to do so, at the request of governmental authorities conducting an investigation, to verify or enforce compliance with the policies governing our website and applicable laws or to protect against misuse or unauthorised use of our website.
• Outstanding finance data is provided by Experian Ltd. In order to resolve customer queries relating to outstanding finance information we may, from time to time, have to pass your personal information to Experian to allow them to fully investigate and resolve any outstanding finance queries.
• We do have relationships with selected companies, where you have provided consent, we may pass the details you give us on to these companies. They, in turn, may offer you goods and services. From time to time, we may use customer information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our privacy policy. If our information practices change at some time in the future we will post the policy changes to our website to notify you of these changes and provide you with the ability to opt out of these new uses.

If we collect any personal data from you, you have the right to receive information about the personal data we hold about you (for which we may charge a small fee). The statutory fee is currently £10.00.
• If you have unresolved concerns you also have the right to complain to data protection authorities. The relevant data protection authority will be the data protection authority of the country: (i) of your habitual residence; (ii) of your place of work; or (iii) in which you consider the alleged infringement has occurred.

Our service accesses these data sources on your behalf, much like a search engine regularly accesses content and stores it to help web users in finding content. We do not access any DVLA systems directly, data is occasionally retrieved via DVLA online services.

Length of time information will be held
