What does breakdown cover exclude?
Breakdown cover is not car insurance, it is important to remember that if you are involved in an accident you need to call your car insurance provider, not your breakdown provider. Your breakdown provider can only assist when your vehicle stops working correctly and you cannot safely drive the vehicle home or to a garage yourself.
Breakdown also will not cover the cost of parts or labour if your vehicle needs to go to a garage to be fixed. So it is worth considering this cost and potentially budgeting for repairs in case this is required.
Ongoing issues with vehicles are also excluded. Your provider may refuse to come out if your vehicle breaks down because of a pre-existing or ongoing issue. It is therefore important to make sure your car is in good working order to avoid the risk of avoidable breakdowns.
Be aware of the number of callouts provided in your cover as not all policies allow for unlimited callouts. The last thing you want to find out when you're broken down on the side of the road is that you have reached your claim limit and will have to foot the bill of recovery and repair.
